Third Story
98 Bottles

Cost: $15 + $10 food/bev

New York bassist Danny Weller returns to California for a week of master classes and concerts, culminating in a return of his band, Third Story, to Dizzy's at 98 Bottles on Friday, September 21st at 7pm and 9pm. This will be the band's first return since their highly successful release of their self-titled debut album last March. Danny's band features guitarist Jeff Miles - winner of 2008 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition and also formerly of San Diego - pianist Joshua White (2011 Monk Competition Finalist), and Los Angeles drummer Jens Kuross. Their debut album features a collection of original compositions by Weller, Miles, and White, and was released March 2nd to a packed house at Dizzy's in San Diego. "A very strong record by four guys nearing their full potential, which figures to have an unlimited upside." Robert Bush, San Diego Troubadour "Every song is a story and each story will hook you." Richard Cone, Presidio Sentinel "While there are strong solos throughout Third Story’s 10-song album, it is the group’s ensemble work — crisp and fluid, moody but carefully calibrated — that most impresses." George Varga, Union Tribune Third Story ventures into lush piano ostinatos, ambient guitar fills, aggressive rhythmic interplay, and haunting melodies of different colors and shapes; sometimes nobody solos, sometimes everybody solos simultaneously. Walls of sound interrupted by moments of pristine simplicity. Third Story explores a realm of sound and force that reads like a favorite book: clear, powerful, and sometimes true Tickets are $15 + $10 food & drink minimum. Seating is limited, so table reservations are highly reccomended. For reservations, contact 98 Bottles at (619)255-7885.
